Newcastle ANZAC Day 2027
On Sunday 25 April 2027, the Newcastle community will come together to honour the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand service personnel.
The City of Newcastle RSL Sub-Branch will coordinate commemorative services, the Newcastle ANZAC Day March and associated community activities across the city. Confirmed event times, transport arrangements, road closures and downloadable guides will be published progressively as planning continues.

Dawn Service
Camp Shortland, Newcastle East
Join the Newcastle community at dawn for a solemn service honouring all who have served and sacrificed. Final service details will be confirmed.
ANZAC Day March
Newcastle CBD
Veterans, serving personnel, descendants and community groups will march through Newcastle. Form-up, route and step-off details will be confirmed.
United Commemoration Service
Civic Park, Newcastle
The community is invited to attend the United Commemoration Service at the Civic Park Cenotaph. Final service details will be confirmed.
The ANZAC Legacy
The ANZAC story began on 25 April 1915, when Australian and New Zealand forces landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The campaign lasted eight months and resulted in more than 25,000 Australian casualties, including approximately 8,700 who were killed or later died from wounds or disease.
The courage, endurance and mateship demonstrated at Gallipoli helped shape the ANZAC spirit. The first anniversary of the landing was commemorated in 1916, and by the 1920s ANZAC Day ceremonies were being held throughout Australia.
Today, veterans and serving personnel from all conflicts, peacekeeping operations and allied nations participate in commemorations across the country. ANZAC Day remains an opportunity for Australians of every generation to remember service, honour sacrifice and reflect on the enduring values of the ANZAC spirit.

2027 Program of Events
Newcastle ANZAC Day events attract significant community attendance, and temporary road closures, parking restrictions and changed traffic conditions will apply at various times throughout the city.
Traffic management will operate under the direction of NSW Police and in coordination with the City of Newcastle and Transport for NSW. Attendees are encouraged to use public transport where possible and allow additional travel time.
The City of Newcastle RSL Sub-Branch appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses and visitors during these important commemorative events. All arrangements remain subject to final approval and operational requirements.

ANZAC Commemoration Service
A commemorative service will be held during April 2027 to honour the service and sacrifice of Australian Defence Force personnel and reflect on the enduring significance of ANZAC Day.

Additional Transport Services for ANZAC Day
Additional public transport services are expected to operate on ANZAC Day to assist people travelling to and from Newcastle commemorative events.
Confirmed bus, ferry and light rail timetables, service diversions and eligibility information for free veteran travel will be published once arrangements are finalised with Newcastle Transport.
Public transport information is expected to be available from mid-March 2027.

The City of Newcastle’s valued partnership supports the delivery of Newcastle’s ANZAC Day Dawn Service, ANZAC Day March and United Commemoration Service, bringing veterans, families and the wider community together in remembrance.
ANZAC Day Dawn Service
Newcastle’s ANZAC Day Dawn Service is planned to commence at 5:00 am at Camp Shortland, Newcastle East. The service will bring the community together in solemn remembrance through music, prayer, reflection and the traditional laying of wreaths.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, bring a torch, wear warm clothing and prepare for changing weather conditions. Large outdoor screens are planned to provide clear viewing of the service throughout the event area.
The traditional Fort Scratchley gun salute and any Australian Defence Force flyover remain subject to final operational approval and confirmation.

Dawn Service Accessibility
Accessible parking is planned for vehicles displaying a valid Mobility Parking Scheme permit. Spaces will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
A designated accessible viewing area is also planned for frail-aged veterans, people requiring mobility assistance and their companions or carers. Accessible paths of travel will connect the parking and viewing areas wherever practicable.
Accessible toilets will be available near the Dawn Service event area. Confirmed parking locations, vehicle-access times, viewing arrangements and path-of-travel information will be published with the final 2027 Accessibility Guide.

ANZAC Day Dawn Service Live Broadcast
Plans are underway to broadcast the Newcastle ANZAC Day 2027 Dawn Service live for veterans, families and community members who are unable to attend in person.
The broadcast is expected to be available through the City of Newcastle RSL Sub-Branch YouTube channel. The confirmed viewing link will be published on this page when available.

Newcastle ANZAC Day March
The Newcastle ANZAC Day March is planned to step off at 9:15 am under the direction of NSW Police. Veterans, serving personnel, descendants, schools and community organisations will march through the Newcastle CBD before disbanding at Civic Park.
The proposed route will proceed from the Hunter Street and Perkins Street form-up area, along King Street and into Auckland Street. The final route, group allocations and road closures remain subject to approval and will be confirmed in the official 2027 March Guide.

United Commemoration Service
The Newcastle ANZAC Day United Commemoration Service is a combined-faith community service held at the Civic Park Cenotaph. Veterans, serving personnel, families and members of the wider community are welcome to attend.
The service is planned to commence at 10:00 am following the Newcastle ANZAC Day March. Any Royal Australian Air Force flyover remains subject to final operational approval and confirmation.

Fort Scratchley Open Day and Firing of the Guns
Fort Scratchley will once again play an important role in Newcastle’s ANZAC Day commemorations, with activities planned throughout the historic site.
The program includes the traditional firing of the guns, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience Newcastle’s remarkable military history. Fort Scratchley will be open from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with historic gun firings at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

A ceremonial Salute to the Fallen is planned following the Dawn Service, honouring the service and sacrifice of members of the Australian Navy, Army, Air Force and the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
The historic 25-pounder field gun will also be fired at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Fort Scratchley holds a unique place in Australia’s military history, having returned fire during the Japanese submarine attack on Newcastle on 8 June 1942.

ANZAC Day Two Up and Pipe Band Display – Queens Wharf Hotel

- Location: Queens Wharf Hotel, 150 Wharf Road, Newcastle NSW 2300
- Parking: On-street parking, Queens Wharf Hotel East and West car parks, Boat Harbour Car Park, Hunter Parking Station and King Street Parking Station
- Accessible parking: Vehicles displaying a valid mobility parking permit may use the Queens Wharf Hotel East Car Park
- Accessible pathways: Access is available via the Foreshore shared pathway, approximately 45 metres from the venue. Visitors with limited mobility should take care around uneven surfaces and ramps
- Accessible toilets: Available within Queens Wharf Hotel
- Public transport: Light rail services operate between Newcastle Interchange and Newcastle Beach. Ferry services operate between Stockton and Queens Wharf. Any special ANZAC Day 2027 services will be published when confirmed
